Overdue Loans & Charges

Overdue loans & charges

Overdue loans

  • If any items on your account become overdue your library account will be suspended until you renew or return them
  • You should renew your loans regularly. An item not returned/renewed within 6 weeks of its due date will be deemed ‘lost’ and a Lost item replacement fee added to your account
  • You will incur overdue charges if an item is requested by another borrower and not returned on time. If an item is already overdue when it is requested, overdue charges will accrue from the date of the request
  • A renewal fee will be added to your account for any overdue Inter Library loans

We have updated, and increased the regularity of our Library email notifications

From Wed 26th April 2017 the following library notices will be sent to your university registered email address:

  • Library Courtesy Notice - 7 days before due date of loaned item
  • Library Due Date Reminder - on due date (your library account will be suspended if an item is not returned or renewed)
  • Library Overdue Items Warning - 3 weeks overdue
  • Library Overdue Items Bill - 6 weeks overdue (very overdue item set to “Lost” incurring replacement charge)
  • Receipt of Library Payment - when you make any payment at the Library.
  • Library Loan Update/Recall - when you need to return an item requested by another user (overdue recalled items cannot be renewed and will incur a charge of £2 per item per day, to a maximum of £50).

You should check your emails and Primo library account regularly, and contact library staff straight away with any problems or queries.

There will be a period of transition while we introduce the updated notifications. If you have any queries, please contact library staff.

The Library is open 24/7. You can pay charges:

    • Online. Log in to Primo - click on Fine+Fees. Payments can be made via PayPal or with a credit or debit card. Follow on screen instructions.
    • At the Information Desk on level 1 of the library with a debit or credit card or with your University card pre-loaded with money
    • By phone (01752) 588588 with a debit or credit card
    • By cheque, made payable to 'Plymouth University', posted to Library and Digital Support, The Charles Seale-Hayne Library, Plymouth University, Drake Circus, Plymouth, PL4 8AA
    • For invoiced charges, follow directions at the bottom of the invoice to pay by BACS.
Once a lost item has been paid for (before or after invoice) we will not normally accept returned items or offer refunds, since we will have purchased a replacement copy. Please contact LibraryandITenquiries@plymouth.ac.uk /Library Information Desk with any queries.

Extenuating Circumstances

If you incur overdue charges but there were mitigating conditions such as illness or bereavement, the charges may be waived. You will need to produce documented confirmation. Accepted evidence includes: validated extenuating circumstances forms, doctor’s notes, or an e-mail from your faculty/tutor. Any documentation must provide the dates you were affected, as we will only waive overdue charges applied within that time frame
