Borrowing from the Library

Borrowing

Plymouth University staff and students are automatically members of the library. You will need your Plymouth University card to access the library building and to borrow from the library stock. Library membership expires when your course ends or your staff contract expires.

The Library is open 24/7/365 and has self-service facilities to borrow and return. Library staff will be happy to help if you have any problems with the machines.

Issue, Return & Renew

Issue

When you borrow items, the machine will print an issue receipt showing the dates your loans are due for return or renewal. Remember to renew your loans regularly. If an item has a queue of requests you can only borrow it for 7 days. Check your receipt carefully. Please be aware that if your issued item is subsequently requested, the due date may change. See Requests and Recalls and Overdue Loans & Charges  for further information

There are four Self-issue machines on level 1 in the main foyer, and a machine on level 0 and level 2.

Return

Returns receipts will show the date and time that an item was returned. Please keep this receipt until you have checked all items have been cleared from your library account. A receipt is accepted as proof of return.

The self-return unit is located on level 1 in the main foyer.

Renew

You can renew your books via the Primo homepage here.

Sign in to Primo (at the top right of the page) using your university username and password.  Your university number should now appear at the top of the page.  Please contact the support desk if this doesn't happen or the wrong number appears.

Now choose 'my account' next to your university number.  You should see all the items currently on loan to you.

To renew, either click on 'renew all' or select the items you require and click 'renew selected'.  You will now see an updated due date.

If your account has been suspended due to overdue charges or lost items, or the item you wish to renew has been requested by someone else, you will see 'not renewable' next to the item.  If you are unsure why your items are not renewable or you have any other queries please contact the library by email at  libraryandITenquiries@plymouth.ac.uk telephone (01752) 588588, or in person at the information desk.
